What?! I guess you've written a self-fulfilling premise here because you know that atheists would disagree with your opinion, but this is insane. I'm a teacher, not really an atheist, but not bound by the trite obsessions and compulsions of organized religion. That being said: I recognize the beauty of cultures, languages, and complexities of the world and the universe. Religious groups (not all of them, but certainly the most vocal) try to repress and deny the existence of those. The great Dalai Lama said that if science disproves religion, religion should be forced to adjust. I mean, we can't hold on to thousand-year old frequently mistranslated (often for political benefit) texts forever. They're static, and our world is ever-changing.
No, school shootings are not caused by not chaining our children to prayer and religious bias in school. Just like shootings in the workplace and anywhere else, they're due to lack of mindfulness. We're at each other's throats over everything these days, and Jesus isn't going to fix it.
