I live here. It's awful, politically speaking. The GOP pre-emptively neutered the governor's when he was rightfully elected, and still blame him for any budgeting issues that arise, despite the fact that it has to go through the GOP-dominated legislature. If (I hope not) the Republican a-hole wins look for that neutering to be magically rescinded.

Furthermore, the issue about the maps was taken to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, where the justices confirmed that the maps were unfair and gerrymandered, but declined to redraw or demand a redraw. It went to the US Supreme Court, which sent it back to the WI Supreme Court, which then said, "ah, hell with it. It's ok. Just go with it."

I'm starting to think that only once do things go horribly wrong here (say, when schools become completely privatized and we see the mistake that it would be), would voters finally have enough sway to render the gerrymander useless. Until then, it's going to be a horrible experiment.
