A Lesson On Justice and Loyalty.

The guy was just promoted.

I had a very comfortable job teaching ESL in a public school. I enjoyed the rapport I had with the parents, teachers, and administration alike. I was translating a lot — which is something I love to do, but repeatedly told that it is not in my job description.

I decided to leave based on a few factors: there was a rift between some of the teachers and the principal, and it was heating up at a torrid pace. There was talk about action at the district level, which meant a possible shake-up.

Meanwhile, my district coordinator called and told me of an opening at a local charter school. The Spanish teacher had abruptly left, and my resume was perfect for the job, she said. It would be teaching high school, which is not my favorite, but I thought a change would be good from time to time.

Well, I struggled with the change. Before I made the change, I asked several people inside and outside of the educational field what they though of the school, and 100% of them told me it was great. I found out that 100% of those people are liars.

The students were quite privileged, you see. The disrespect was blatant, frequent, and sanctioned by the parents. Case in point: when I had given one particularly rowdy student an office referral (non-stop disruptions, snapchatting, making…
